You’ll then need to plug those cables into your VHS converter. The two most common output connectors on the back of a VCR are S-Video, which is video only, and RCA, which has three plugs: one for video and two for audio. This depends on what ports you have on your VHS-to-digital converter. You’ll use this to play the VCR tapes that you want to digitize. For example, the listings on Amazon include “VHS to Digital Converter Adapter”, “Elgato Video Capture”, “Capture Card USB”, “Video Capture Card” and so on. Different manufacturers call them different things, but you’ll usually find the word “capture” or “converter” in the name.

In this article we’ll discover the best way to record into your PC, how to digitize VHS tapes, what hardware and software you need to transfer video to your device and what VHS-to-PC software you should try on Windows 10.
I'm thinking of re-installing VS SE (my original VS SE that came with Cap Wiz / ADS DVD 2.0- 2003) & seee if that works.ĪDS DVD 2.0 worked great in VS Capture mode before the hd replacement. To turn VHS into digital you’ll need three things: a computer with video capture software a video capture device such as a TV tuner card, a video capture card or an external USB video capture device and a VHS player such as a VCR. The capture device does support S-Video input, but you would need to provide your own cable to connect with your VHS camcorder. It's a box with RCA connections & not the card version. Yes, it is Cap Wiz & it did work with vs10+ prior to my replacing a hd. If your version of VS 10+ was a standard one and could capture from the Adstech device, then you would be about the only person of whom I am aware ever to have had this success. If using a USB extension cable or USB hub, try a direct USB connection instead. If possible, try USB ports on two different sides of the computer. As far as I am aware this has not changed. See What can I capture from (Video Conversion). With their older devices, they also used to supply a version of Video Studio which they themselves had tweaked to work with their cards, but more recently the Video Studio appears to be a normal SE version designed to edit the video captured by CapWiz. Ken Berry wrote:Rich - you will have seen many, and I mean MANY, posts about the fact that Adstech is notorious for making capture cards and devices that only work with the software supplied with the card, which is usually CapWiz. I did reset all my cabels, rebooted, etc. Now I can't capture analog (VCR) tapes to VS. I reinstalled VS10+ & the ADS software / drivers. If your device comes with its own capture software you should use that, then import those files into VS for editing.
We understand that Corel/Ulead is working on a patch, but have no idea when it might emerge.
And then import the captured files into VS for editing. The only work-around appears to be to capture using third party software (I use WinDV for capturing my DV from the Sony Digital 8 for instance). The culprit appears to be the new IVI capture component, which the designers in their wisdom (NOT!!!) substituted for the various Direct Show capture plug-ins which had worked just fine in previous versions of VS. (The only exception appears to be at least some devices which have a hardware chip which converts the analogue signal into DV format in the device itself, rather than relying on VS11 to convert it.) This includes mini DV cameras being used as a pass-through device by either an analogue camera or VCR Sony Digital 8 cameras playing an analogue tape over firewire and most standard analogue capture devices. There is a bug recorded by quite a few users (me included) whereby VS11 will not capture - either in DV format or mpeg-2 - from just about all analogue sources.
